Camp; its a passion

Here it goes!
CAMP ADVENTURES! FALL!!!!!
So, Saturday morning, I woke up very early to head off to camp (Left about 6:30am) and got to camp a little before 8, I believe. I spent the morning preparing things for the day. I ate breakfast with the girls and from there, I was everywhere. I helped in the kitchen, I helped with leading songs with the little girls, I helped people get settled into their cabins, I was everywhere. I was constantly going going going that whole morning. The theme of the weekend was Tailgating, and it was for Dad and me. We had some G-pa's in the house too!

The activities were amazing; a variety of sport-y like games and crafts, and just all around fun. The dads really got into it and were having just as much fun as the little girls. I saw dads teaching their girls football, or dads putting sequins on a mask. I even saw one dad get matching face paint to match his daughter (ladybug face). I was very impressed with the interaction those fathers provided for their fathers. I know they had a blast and were letting loose by the end of the evening because when it came for trick or treating... the dads were right in there with the girls with dressing up (some matching father-daughter outfits)! At the masquerade dance, a lot of fathers were out on the dance floor with their girls (until they got really tired!) The dads were in there singing with us, all the songs with motions, helping with clean up, helping with set up and everything. Very rarely did a group of fathers just go sit in the corner.

This weekend was kind of an experiment, as I was told. Because it was a father-daughter weekend (never really done as an all nighter before). Something else that was new to this campout was the fact that we did not provide a very set schedule of activities and groups. It was more of a go hangout with dad, and here are the activities. Meals were set in time, and slotted time frames for activities, otherwise troops did not have to stay together. It was more of a free-to-go weekend. It was a success in my eyes. Usually girls are in groups/troops and they stick with them all weekend. I think this was awesome because dads met, and girls met and made a variety of new friends. Seeing girls interact with new friends and seeing the dads right in there with them was just an awesome experience, for everyone.

In the afternoon, there was some downtime so I was sitting at a table with some ladies (ladies who volunteered to help in the kitchen for the weekend) and we were talking... I ended up meeting Michelle. I goth so excited because goes to Savannah, GA for trips, has been a couple times and is going again next May. Savannah GA is the birthplace of the Girl Scouts, and were the founder was born/died. It is the main headquarters for Girl Scouts (in the USA). It is HUGE. Anyway, she is driving out there in May, and offered if I wanted to ride with her.... I REALLY WANT TO GO. I have always dreamed of going there, one of my biggest dreams!! I hope to save money to ride along with her. Also, she had a bag with her from her last trip, including books, pictures and a variety of things from her trip. I was having a heart attack, because GS is my passion and these pictures were so beautiful and I cannot even imagine the emotion I would feel if I was there. Michelle also told me about a video... so I looked it up on my phone. Its the story of how the Golden Eaglet was awarded in 1918. It is in 2 parts, but it is amazing. For me, I was wishing I could have lived back then to experience how they went through training, or how they went about things.

Sunday Morning came around, and of course, I did not sleep much, so I was awake quite early. I got myself ready and left my cabin a little before 7. BUT the dads were already awake and loading up their cars! I did not want to wake the girls because we did not have to be up to the main building until 7:45, so I hung out with the fathers for awhile. Although, I was tired and cold, I kept up my motivation and enthusiasm.  We finally got everyone up and ready, we set tables for breakfast... the rest of the morning included cleaning and packing up. The fathers were pretty awesome though. Most of everything was done quite quickly and efficiently with them around. I had the dads and girls who stayed in my unit play a couple games when we were done cleaning, and they really had fun with that. We then had a little ceremony to end camp and just like that, everyone got into their cars and left. I stayed to help with a few more things, but most of everything was done. I left a little before 11.
It was a very productive morning, and eventful weekend overall.

I am absolutely obsessed with these videos.
To most people this sounds insane. Its passion. Its love. Its just passion.
Passion= waking up early to sing songs.
teach a new game.
learn how to help someone else.
going out of your way to inspire one little girl to make the right choice.
providing opportunities for one girl. or hundreds.
driving a long way to help out in the kitchen.
returning to camp, even when you do not have any daughters involved, just because.
-the list goes on... and on...

passion lives inside me because of Girl Scouts.

Peace :)
