I have something on my mind and I need to express it so badly.
Last Saturday Grant and I went south to Pleasantville. We met up with my father and then went to visit my Grandma. Background on her; she is alone in a nursing care home. She has been for many years now. She has alzheimer's. No one knows the painful experience unless you felt it yourself of having a family or friend go through it themselves. Anyway. It is always a challenge to go there because she does not know who we are anymore. She kind of recognizes our faces, but she could tell you who we are. Once you comprehend that, the next thing is to not ask questions about anything in the recent past (what she just ate, what she is drinking, what she did earlier etc) You have two focus on things in the NOW; To make her smile, I pointed out a lady had mis-match socks and that made her smile. We were sitting there and we had to ask the lady who worked there if she could take my Grandma to the bathroom. That was quite the duty. First, they have to put a belt around her. then they lift her up, but they have a beeper on the chair, so they turn that off. they then hold her/and the belt to carry and help her walk down the hall. I noticed that she already went in her pants so I knew they would just have change her pants. It takes a team; but the lady helping was not rough. Was not rude. She was nice, friendly and warm. Not only warm skin, but warm heart. I believe that homes like that need more people like that because those people are depressed, they are stuck in their minds and cannot express anything; they are stuck there without seeing people they love daily or regurarly. They are no longer independent. I believe those ladies that work there are angels. I honestly do. Maybe its because I am relying my Grandma's care in their hands, but I still believe they are angels. If I could. go down there more regurarly, then I would, but its a 45 minute drive and I can only go once a week it seems.
I just wanted to express my gratitude towards that one lady in particular that helped my grandma. I saw her with other in-home people and she was just awesome. She understands. She feels. She was an angel.
